Our intention today was to have our weekly day of rest but in retrospect we seem to have done quite a lot.

The perfect start to a down day is a long and delicious brunch. So we walked down the street to Elizabeth’s and snagged a table for two before the hoards began to arrive. Any meal at Elizabeth’s is good but Brunch is a specialty. I’m particularly fond of the Corn waffle topped with sweet potato and duck hash and a dollop of pepper jelly. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. Harry opted for a pouched egg dish with Hollandaise that included shrimp and chunks of delicious and juicy ham. And of course we ordered the house specialty of Praline Bacon.
Feeling the necessity of a walk after our repast we climbed an arched bridge over the levee and railroad tracks to Crescent Park. This relatively new park is sandwiched between the levee and river. The long and narrow space is nicely landscaped and was heavily used by bicyclists, dog walkers, and those of us just trying to walk off Sunday brunch. For further entertainment one can watch the cargo ships negotiate a sharp left hand turn as they approached the city. Or alternatively count the hundreds of cars on the freight trains passing slowly by.
Kind of scary how fast they go by and how hard they must be to stop or change direction
Mid-afternoon we headed to Finn McCool’s Irish Pub to watch the Patriot’s Game, as it is “the” place that Patriot’s fan’s gather in New Orleans to do just that. I had my doubts at first about the venue but struck up a conversation with the man sitting next to me and others did too and we had a good time despite the Patriot’s loss. And I might add that even bar food in New Orleans is exceptional. Now we probably don’t eat more than five burgers a year but this burger tops the list for the past several years. And not served with ketchup but with a spicy cup of deliciousness.
