Since this was Will’s last day of vacation he got to pick our destinations.

First on list was to check out the Lakewood Church.   This congregation repurposed a former sports arena.    Thus combining two of Will’s interest’s sports and TV religious personalities.   Here is Wikipedia’s initial paragraph of their article on Lakewood Church.

Lakewood Church is a nondenominational charismatic Christian megachurch located in Houston, Texas. It is the largest congregation in the United States, averaging more than 43,500 in attendance per week. The 16,800 seat Lakewood Church Central Campus, home to four English language services and two Spanish language services per week,[2] is located at the former Compaq Center.[3] Joel Osteen is the senior pastor of Lakewood Church with his wife, Victoria, who serves as co-pastor. Lakewood Church is a part of the Word of Faith movement.

After inquiring at the front desk Harry and Will checked out the bookstore and were then accompanied into the sanctuary itself.
Our next stop was an active sports arena for the Tour at NRG Stadium home of the NFL’s Texans but as a multi-purpose stadium it also hosts events like Monster Trucks and the Rodeo.   It has a seating capacity of 71,795 and has a retractable roof.   The tour itself was a bit boring but our timing was impeccable as we were able to watch was they rolled up the field turf to get ready for the monster truck event.   Check out the photos below.
Then we had time to do a driving tour (accompanied by on-line audio description) of downtown Houston it’s skyscrapers, performing arts venues, sculptures, and the Buffalo Bayou Park.
It was then time to take Will to the airport and send him on his way to Boston.

We then went to Sarah and John’s to Babysit for Eva while they had dinner out.   She is a delightful bundle of energy.

What a great final day for Will! Fascinating to see the turf rolled up. Who knew? (well, probably everybody except me...;D ) Thanks again for including all of us in the fun!

Great pics. What musician does the sculpture depict? And what is the building with the great columns?
