St George's Island is a barrier island connected to the mainland by bridge. One end of the Island is St George's Island State Park with a camp ground and buildings housing restrooms and picnic pavilions spaced somewhat evenly along the 7 miles of beach.
At this time of year the beach goers consist of walkers and those willing to bundle up a bit to sit and enjoy the scene. With Linda and Dan we drove out to the Island and first picnicked in the pavilion overlooking the beach. Then we walked along the shore checking out the shells, beached jellyfish, and marveling at the expanse of sea and sand. When back at our chairs the sea birds entertained us by skittering along in the surf. One Pelican came for a visit and stood still for photos. Dan and Linda were brave even to do a bit of wading in the Gulf waters.
This evening, we ate at our favorite restaurant in Apalachicola, The Up The Creek Raw Bar. Having sampled most of the affordable restaurants in Apalachicola on our three visits here, this place has the most interesting menu with lots of variety.
