We spent most of the day basking in the sun on the upper deck of the Bus Turistic seeing the sights and getting to know the different neighborhoods of the city.

We now understand “the lay of the land” and have an appreciation of the contrast between the crowded lanes of the Old City (Bari Gotic), the wide boulevards of the Xiample. We learned about the rebuilding of the harbor areas for the 1992 Olympic games, and the Museums, parks and gardens on the Montjuic hillside much of which was built for the International Exhibitions 1929 and 1888. All of which make this a beautiful and livable city.
Here are a set of sites we saw, group by topic rather than the order in which we saw them. We actually saw more sights than this, but a lot goes by very fast. This captures the highlights of the bus tour.

At the time of my Mother’s Graveside Service we were in a lovely park, listening to and watching children play while is shared stories about my Mom/Grandma, then recited the Lord’s Prayer and the Mourner’s Kaddish.

Pinchos Y Tapas
Ben had picked out a Tapas bar for dinner and led us through both small and large Placas (Plazas), curving lanes, alleys, and to our destination.
Placa Reial
After dinner we checked out the nearby Placa Reial a large open rectangular Plaza surrounded by large neoclassical buildings. The arcades on the ground floor of the buildings house open-air restaurants. In the center of the Placa there is a richly ornamented fountain and two lampposts design by Gaudi. The coverings on top of the lights resemble helmets.
Walking several steps ahead of us and looking like a college student from the U.S. Ben was approached by several unsavory characters that offered to sell him a variety of drugs. Somewhat aghast he politely declined.
