After a good night's sleep and a satisfying hotel breakfast we boarded the first cable car to an even higher place on the mountain. This one was reminiscent of the cog railway on Mt. Washington only sleek and modern. The steep angle of the slope was similar.

We emerged out onto a ridge and enjoyed a peaceful walk taking in the views to the valleys below, the peaks above and the bright hues of the wild flowers. The destination of this particular path was Saint John’s Chapel. The last few minutes of this walk were quite steep. We made it but decided to go no further. Above us on the trail we could see the remains of old hermitages built right into the rocks.
Harry found a place to perch and sketch some of the rock formations while Marsha retraced her steps on the path. She looked somewhat like a pack animal carrying all our jackets and outerwear that we were sure we would need at this higher and more exposed location. It was actually downright hot with very little breeze.
While waiting for Harry’s return Marsha was able to affirm that regardless of where in the world one finds oneself the behavior of teenage students on field trips is the same worldwide. Self absorbed, oblivious to everyone around them, unnecessarily rambunctious, and above all just trying so hard to be cool that they achieve the opposite effect. I raise my glass to all of you who have or currently are able to teach and mentor these dear creatures.
After a long lunch we retrieved our packs from the hotel and took the funicular back down the mountain to the train station and retraced our route back to Barcelona.
