Is this really only the third day we have been away? Somehow it seems much longer. Perhaps that is because it was damn cold when we left Lexington and it was in the high 70's in Charleston today.
Our meals today were eaten outside. Starting with breakfast after which, we walked along King Street in Charleston down to the Battery enjoying the spring flowers in the window boxes, the intricate wrought iron gates, and catching glimpses of lush gardens behind those gates. And, of course, the variety of architectural styles of the buildings and houses. Even the mold growing on the sides of walls is beautiful in Charleston.
Leaving Charleston around 1pm we headed to Tybee Island for a late lunch at the Crab Shack. The photos should explain why we return year after year.
The low country landscape is flat. Some might even say unappealing but we have learned to love the vista's over the marshes, the soaring bridges, from which you can see all those boardwalks that extend out over the marsh to open water where they end in a square roofed pavilions where the homeowner can enjoy the scene or hop into their boat.
After driving just another couple of hours we are bedded down for the night in Brunswick, Georgia just north of the Florida border. It was a lovely day and we have the slightly sunburned cheeks to prove it.
