For Northerners there is nothing like a walk on a Florida Beach in January. We decided to spend this morning at Anastasia State Park - St. Augustine. Feeling the sand between your toes is extra special when you visualize the snow and cold back home. While I walked on the beach Harry rode his bike (also on the beach). Warm air, an ocean breeze, and crashing waves - it was all good.
We had lunch at the Alcazar Cafe. This space which was formerly the swimming pool of the Alcazar Hotel (one of the first St. Augustine Hotels (circa 1890) has been transformed into a cafe with white linen tablecloths, a pianist, and dapper wait staff.
After lunch we visited the Villa Zorayda built as a winter home for a rich Bostonian in the time before Henry Flagler built his railroad to St. Augustine and there was no electricity in the town. He modeled his home on the. Alhambra and imported many of the building materials from Spain. It is filled with his collections and that of the second owner who was a St. Augustine rug merchant and an renowned expert of Egyptology.
To top off the day we indulged ourselves and tried a couple of artisan popsicles - made without water and sugar and with fresh fruits and flavors. We had an orange cream and maple pecan but there were some other very exotic flavors.
