Harry tells me that it’s been five days since I’ve wrote in our blog. I’m not sure how this has happened. Granted we have slowed down our pace quite a bit I just hadn’t realized how much.

Feb 1 and 2 Apalachicola
We spent two full days in Apalachicola. This is our fourth visit to “Apalach” and we always find it to be relaxing. After a month on the road it was just what we needed. The first day we enjoyed the scene from our expansive screened porch at the Water Street Hotel and walked about in town. The second day the fog had rolled in so there was no view. Both days we had dinner at the Up the Creek Restaurant and ordered our favorite items from the menu both nights. If you are an Oyster lover like I am it is hard to go wrong with a dozen fresh oysters for $10.99. Harry is partial to the blackened shrimp. The Thai salad is crunchy, sweet and spicy all at the same time. When walking the two short blocks back to the hotel we mused that we really enjoy staying placed that have great restaurants are a short walk away from our lodgings.
Feb 3 – Apalachicola, FL to Sarasota FL
After securing two cups of café con leche to go we left Apalachicola at 8 am and arrived at Alex and Kathy McKenzie’s home in Sarasota at 3 pm. We were welcomed warmly and rested a bit before heading to the dining room here at The Fountains for dinner.
Sarasotsa
Feb 4 – Sarasota, FL
Every month or so one has to spend a day doing errands. Today was the day. First up were haircuts, then an oil change, and prescription refills. Marsha and Kathy managed to fit in some shopping before meeting friends for Happy Hour at a nearby restaurant.
It is good to have “old” friends. I don’t mean that in the sense that we are “old”, which we are, I mean it in the sense that it is comfortable to be together. Alex and Kathy are at the top of our list in this department!

Selby Gardens
Feb 5 – Selby Gardens
Harry and Alex went off early to meet Rick Landsman, a former colleague from their BBN days, for breakfast while Kathy and I slept in.
This afternoon we went to Selby Gardens. We have been there before but it is a fine place and we enjoyed our return visit. It is a beautiful and restful place for a stroll. The orchid greenhouse was as impressive as we remembered. The views across the bay are lovely and the shore birds entertaining.

After dinner we got a TXT message from Ben and Will who were at the BC Men's Hockey game. It was great to "see" them enjoying sports together.
