Linda and Dan headed to Ft. Myers to pick up Sarah whose trip from Boston included a cancelled flight, rerouting through Philadelphia with a 7 hour layover, a delayed takeoff on the second leg of the flight due to deicing procedures, and a midnight arrival in Ft. Myer’s that necessitated a overnight hotel stay.

We awoke at 5:00am to a pretty spectacular rain storm with all of the associated South Florida fireworks. When one of these storms goes past, you really know it.
After that rude awakening, we began our day with a trip to the post office and other errands. Then we went to the Marco Island Historical Society Museum. The volunteer greeter was very friendly and informative. The first room had an exhibit of watercolors by artist Donald Sunshine who had collaborated with local historian Betsy Perdichizzi to present the story of the development of the Isle of Capri, an "Island" which is between Marco and Naples. Yes, the town names are Italian, the housing developments have Italian names and the predominant cuisine is Italian. The exhibit was in part a tribute to the developer of the Isles of Capri, Leland L. "Doc" Loach.
The exhibit in the second room centered on the native peoples and their way of life. It included copies of artifacts and life-sized dioramas.
The final two rooms centered on the history of the three families that settled on the island beginning in the late 1800’s, as well as the major development of the island by the Mackle Brothers in the 1950’s.
Then it was back for a swim and some time in the sun before heading out for a mediocre dinner at C.J.’s on the Bay.
