The past two weeks have been great fun. We've had new adventures daily. From here on in our main goal is relaxation.
This morning we went to the Tallahassee Museum of History and Nature. It is a combination of Fauna, Flora and History.

Fauna
For us the best part was the extensive raised boardwalk that wandered through the Habitats for the animals native to Florida. The animals were enjoying the bright sunny day as much as we were. They had for the most part positioned themselves in places where they could soak up the rays and either where they could survey the scene which in the cases of the foxes and bobcats was from the tree tops. The Bear, Florida panther and wolves were catching a midday nap. The panther was much bigger than either of us expected him to be. Much more like a small lion if a lion were sleek with longer legs. The deer were prancing about. In the bird section there were eagles and hawks, screech owl, and others we couldn't identify.
Flora
Some of the areas through which we walked were cypress swamps with the trees dripping with Spanish moss. The antithesis of the current Boston scene.
History: Old Florida
The Old Florida group of buildings has 5 buildings. A plantation named Bellevue was on this site and the plantation house and kitchen are still there. One slave cabin, of the 47 that were there has been reconstructed. In addition a school house and church were moved to the site.
They are well interpreted with furnishings, signs, and audio clips.
One fact I learned today is that Bellevue was purchased in 1854 by Catherine Gray Murat was related to George Washington and her husband Prince Achille Murat the son of Napoleon's brother in law.

We are now at the Lodge at Wakulla Springs state park. The 1937 lodge building has changed little over the years. It is an oasis of calm.
You can easily imagine you are part of cast of Creatures of the Black Lagoon which was filmed here. Or perhaps you have just arrived by train and were transfer to the Lodge in a jaunty roadster.
Enough writing -- I'm just going to soak in the sun, close my eyes and listen to the birds call out to one another.
