After a hearty breakfast we left Wakulla Springs and drove 20 minutes to St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. The lovely woman in the Visitor's Center showed us their two resident Alligators and directed us to a walk through the nearby woods and around a pond.
There was water in some places where there should have been dry trail but we skirted around through the woods and made it to the boardwalk portion. Then we drove another 5 miles or so to the Lighthouse right on the Gulf and walk out to the beach and along the shore. It was lovely. The picnic area bordered a pond and we found a table in the sun under a live oak and had lunch. It was hard to leave such a lovely spot.
Another 1 1/2 drive along the coast and we were in Apalachicola. Our room at the Water Street Hotel has a screen porch overlooking the Creek and marsh beyond. Dinner tonight at our favorite restaurant in Apalachicola, the Up the Creek Raw Bar. A dozen Oyster on the half shell - right off the boat - for $10.00 - and Fish Tacos too. Great place.
Tomorrow we are taking a day off. No sightseeing. We can each do whatever we want. Sleep late or not. Stay in or go out. This is a vacation after all. Maybe we'll take a few photos around town.
