After a couple of cups of Alex's cappuccino we packed up and said our goodbyes to Alex, Kathy and Zoe and headed still further south to Naples. We enjoyed seeing the McKnezies in their new home and hope they will visit is in Lexington soon.
We have immensely enjoyed the past week of socializing. First meeting up with Linda and Dan Chessman in Apalachicola, then an overnight visit with JoAnn McManamy in the Villages, and lunch the next day with Alan and Linda Baker in Lake Placid, and then with Alex and Kathy McKenzie in Sarasota. But now it's time for just us and some pure vacation time. Slowing down and really enjoying the weather.
So, we traveled South to Naples, where first, we had lunch at a beautiful little cafe in a non-descript strip mall. If it hadn't received rave reviews on TripAdvisor, we wouldn't have even thought to go there.
We booked our first five days in Naples through Airbnb an on-line service we have used before to book private rooms in homes and also apartments. Except for one marginally OK apartment in Quebec City which did have a wonderful location we have been very pleased with our accommodations. This time we have a bedroom and bath with private entrance in a lovely home. The thing that makes this absolutely terrific is that our room opens up onto the large lanai with contains a lovely pool, hot tub, chaises, table and chairs and a cushioned wicker seating area with one of those propane heaters to warm you up on chilly evenings. Our terrific hosts Linda and David are very nice. Since they are Floridians and work from home they do not use the lanai in February so we have had it to ourselves. Their black lab mix Casey, however, does think it is a fine place to hang out and we are glad to have her there with us coming by for an occasional chuck in the chin and a pat accompanied by "Who's a good dog".
