When looking at the Top Attractions listed in Trip Advisor for Naples Harry found one that we had not previously visited. The Bird Gardens of Naples which offered two-hour tours. This non-profit houses parrots that have been abandoned, abused, or in need of a home. Located near the Audubon Sanctuary at Corkscrew Swamp. During the tour we walked down paths lined with flight cages and learned about the more than 300+ parrots from all over the world.
We also entered the macaw aviary for some time up close and personal with the birds.

Corkscrew Swamp
When the winter is dry the birds and alligators all congregate in the few areas that stay wet. When it is a wet winter like this one they are spread over the landscape by themselves or in small groups. We didn't see any alligators this time around but the birds were cooperative. We saw pileated and red breasted woodpeckers, juvenile and adult ibises, little blue herons, annihigas, snowy egrets and regular egrets. Harry saw quite a large snake which thankfully Marsha did not.
We always return to Corkscrew Swamp when we visit Naples. The two mile long boardwalk takes you through the swamp. The main attraction is, of course, the birds and other wildlife but the swamp itself is quite beautiful. Lording over all are the majestic old growth cypress trees - some entwined in strangler figs which add to their beauty and do no harm. There are endless varieties of ferns, epiphytes, bromeliads and so much more.
