One of the activities we discovered in our planning for this trip was an "Apalachicola Rover Front Boat Tour" run by the Apalachicola Maritime Museum. This was something we had never done, so we made reservations for the 11am tour.
We won't dwell on the discrepancies between the time we were told to arrive for the tour and the actual time of the tour or the lack of customer service skills of the employees. Let's concentrate on the positives. The Florida accent of the Boat Captain was the thickest we have ever encountered. His running commentary centered around who owned what, how all the long time residents were related to each other, who had built or owned each building or boat or who was no longer among the living. Not your usual historical tour but entertaining nonetheless. Plus we are usually looking out at the river so it was fun to be water borne and looking back at the town. As you might figure out from the photos below it was a bit of a nippy morning. We (Harry, Marsha, Linda and Dan) had all searched through our cars for our winter hats and gloves before venturing out on the water.
Boats
Shimp Boats along the docks. These boats go out for month long trips.
There are also photos of tugs and dredges along the working docks.

House Boats
In past visits we have looked longingly at the houseboats moored near our hotel. Maybe sometime we will rent one. There are others a bit more up river that have even more character.
Buildings
The first photo is of our favorite restaurant in Apachlachicola the Up the Creek Raw Bar. the second is of our hotel the Water Street Hotel and Marina. Then there are photos of the working waterfront and some picturesque deteriorating docks, marinas and fish processing plants.
Birds
Here are some of the birds we saw along the river.
Inside the Apalachicola Maritime Museum
The museum featured exhibits on Apalachicola's past industries and had an exhibit of paintings of local scenes.
